ENCINO MAN (1992)

In 1991, Brendan auditioned for, and won, the titular role of  Encino Man  in the teen comedy.

Dave Morgan (SEAN ASTIN)
is a regular Encino,California high school student, tasked with digging a hole in his backyard for a swimming pool.
An earthquake unearths a block of ice and to Dave's and his best friend Stoney Brown's  (PAULY SHORE) amazement, it is not empty.
Inside of it, they find a caveman and proceed to thaw him, but while they are at school, the caveman wakes and along with the family dog BORIS,
he begins to explore his strange new world.

DAVE and STONEY groom their new friend with a bath,

some dental hygiene

and a makeover.

Christening him Linkovitch Chomofsky
as in "the missing link") they then introduce him to:

 DAVE'S FAMILY
Mr. Morgan (Richard Masur)
Mrs. Morgan (Mariette Hartley)
and his sister.
                 .
Enrolling Link at Encino High as an exchange student from ESTONIA. "LINK" becomes very popular, especially with the ladies.
Robyn Sweeney (Megan Ward)
Ella (Robin Tunney)

But, not with Robyn's boyfriend Matt
                     (Michael Deluise)

  Jonathan Ke Quan

Dave and Stoney introduce Link to such modern marvels as:

The Family Dinner

The Convenience Store

The fine art of "weezin' the juice"
followed by.....
The "brain freeze".

This scene features Eric Avari as Raji and Gerry Bednob as Kashmir. Brendan and Mr.Avari would reunite seven years later in "The Mummy", where he plays Terrence Bey.

The Amusement Park

The Prom

And the timeless custom of friendship.

ANIMAL ACTOR SPOTLIGHT
The Morgan Family dog "Boris" was played by Buffie, a Golden Retriever.
Brendan and Buffie sharing a bowl
of dog chow during lunch. Just kidding, it was really a bowl of Cookie Crisp cereal.

In the high school science class scene, Brendan did indeed eat a sweet little frog🐸😱! Sweet, because it was made of candy🍭🍬😌.

ENCINO MAN
was DIRECTED by LES MAYFIELD.

WRITTEN by GEORGE ZALOOM and SHAWN SCHEPPS.

PRODUCED by  GEORGE ZALOOM, HILTON A. GREEN AND MICHAEL ROTENBERG

The movie was filmed in Southern California in two months.
In Europe and New Zealand, the movie was released under this alternate title.

In their second season, SOUTH PARK aired a parody episode entitled PREHISTORIC ICE MAN
in which KYLE and STAN discover a man who has been frozen in time.....for thirty two months.
The boys proceed to name the man alternately "Steve" and "Gorak". Eventually, they help him to escape from FBI agents, finally seeing him off on a train to his new home in Iowa.
