THE MUMMY RETURNS (2001)

The sequel to The Mummy (1999) reunited Brendan with cast members Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, Arnold Vosloo, Oded Fehr, and Patricia Velasquez. Joining them, Freddie Boath as Rick and Evelyn O'Connell's son Alex, and  Shaun Parker as Izzy, an old friend of Rick's.


Set ten years after The Mummy,  Rick O'Connell and Evelyn Carnahan are married and the parents of a precocious son named Alex. Still adventurous, the trio are exploring a tomb in Thebes when they discover the BRACELET OF ANUBIS, Evy has some strange visions of a past life in Egypt, and the threesome narrowly escape death and return to London. Alex opens the box containing the bracelet and tries it on and it locks onto him causing him to have some visions of his own. He has seven days to reach the oasis of Ahm Shere, home to the pyramid of The Scorpion King or die when the sun's rays shine upon him. Simple. Except that a cult is trying to find Imhotep's body so that they can resurrect him once again and they arrive in London to kidnap Evy to use her as the human sacrifice so that a woman named Meela (the reincarnation of Anck-su-namun) can be reunited with her ancient lover, Imhotep.

Contrary to a popular misconception, the throne room fight between Nefertiri and Anck su Namun DID use stunt doubles for Rachel Weisz and Patricia Velasquez. (That's why they were wearing MASKS, Kids !)  Twins Dee and Carly Harrup 22, and Nikki Berwick 23, deserve credit for their impressive work on that scene. All three were nominated that year for their work on the film at the World Stunt Awards.

Kelly Dent and Lynda Van Den Berg also doubled for Rachel in the film.

CURIOSITY: EGYPT, WHAT LIES BENEATH.He was also the executive producer.

We've both been asked if Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson actually ate a real Scorpion and yup, he did. Apparently, they're safe to eat raw or cooked, but you have to remove the stinger and venom glands before imbibing. Bon appetit 🦂!!!
