THE QUIET AMERICAN (2002)

Brendan portrayed Alden Pyle,
an idealistic American relief worker, who may be more than he seems, who meets a British expat journalist named
Thomas Fowler (Michael Caine) in Saigon circa 1952.
Along with Fowler's young Vietnamese mistress, Phuong (Do Thi Hai Yen),
Pyle forms an uncomfortable romantic triangle amid violence and corruption in 1952 Saigon (now Ho Chi Minh City) Vietnam.

Tzi Ma portrays Fowler's able assistant, Hihn.

The film was directed by Phillip Noyce (Dead Calm, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger) pictured on set with Brendan and Michael Caine.

Filming took place in Vietnam ( Da Nang, Ninh Binh, Hanoi, Hoa Lu, Hoi An, and Ho Chi Minh City.
As well as at the Fox Studios in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
Alden Pyle's newly adopted dog, "Duke". Curiously played by a Shar Pei, when the novel describes "Duke"as a black dog.
Upon completion the film was put "on ice" due to concerns due to the events of 9/11. Michael Caine took the film to the Toronto International Film Festival in September of that year. It was released by Miramax Films for two weeks in November 2002 to qualify for Academy Award consideration,  Michael Caine was nominated for Best Actor. The film then given a wider release in March of 2003 ,but fell victim to inept marketing and was not given the chance to perform at the box office that it deserved.
